THE HISTORY OF THE JEWS OVER TIME: AL-QURAN [3:112]

AL QURAN [3:112]

They have been put under humiliation [by Allah] wherever they are overtaken, except for a rope [i.e., covenant] from Allah and a rope [i.e., treaty] from the peopleAnd they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allah and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in the verses of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed.”

The Jews are descendants of the 12 sons of Yaqub A.S. (Israel), his eldest son was called Yehudah (Judah), from which they were called ‘Yahudi’ that is in English ‘Jews’. They mainly believe in the Torah (revealed to Musa A.S.) which is the Old Testament today.

THEIR HISTORY THROUGH TIME:

·       "The Golden Age" they had everything: Prophets among them, honour, power and wealth.

1010-970 BC Reign of Daud A.S.

970-931 BC Reign of Suleiman A.S.

After which their downfall began. The main reasons:

- The disobedience of Allah

- The disbelief in the Verses

- The killing of the Prophets and of those who invited them to do good deeds.

8th century BC i.e. 1200 after Musa A.S. and 800 years before the arrival of Isa A.S., they were divided into 2 states due to some conflicts between them: the northern state and the southern state. As a result of the wars between themselves: the northern state was completely destroyed. While in the southern state only the Torah and the Temple of Suleiman A.S remained safe.

After 200 years

·       6th century BC the attack by the Babylonians: they destroyed both the Temple of Suleiman A.S. and they burned the Torah (the Torah no longer exists on the Earth). After that there was slavery, misery and other tragedies upon them for nearly 100 years.

·       5th century BC they got help from Persia (Iran), and were saved from their miserable situation. They returned to Palestine and rebuilt the Temple of Suleiman A.S. once again. There was the arrival of the Prophet Uzair A.S. (Ezra in English) who rewrote the Torah thanks to his memory (he was a Hafiz: he who memorizes, conservative). Subsequently: improvement of their situation.

After 100 years

·       4th century BC Alexander the Great conquered Palestine and made it under the control of the Roman Empire (when Isa A.S. arrived, Palestine was still part of the Roman Empire).

Despite having a country of their own and an improvement in their conditions of life, the Jews were deprived of the freedom to practice their own religion: Judaism. And Judaism became a non-preaching religion.

They started plans against Persia, which had liberated them in the past.

*Point to be noted: The children of Israel (Jews) were muslims, until they denied Isa A.S. and Muhammad ﷺ .

·       1rst century AD after the arrival of Isa A.S., there was an attack by the Romans and their Temple was destroyed. After that, many Jews left Palestine to settle in the countries of the Arabian Peninsula. And this was the period in which they arrived in Madina.

·       2nd century AD they were driven out of Palestine completely, now it was no more their country. Therefore, they no longer had their own nation for 2000 years, until 1948. They could not return to their country throughout this period, in which wherever they had gone, they were chased away.

For example:

·       7th-8th century AD in the era of the Prophet Muhammad they were driven out of Medina; in the period of Hazrat Umer, from Hebor and they were sent into exile in Syria.

·       11th century AD there were wars between Jews and Christians; Jews were killed in Germany and France.

·       1290 the Jews were exiled from England.

·       1391 following the Spanish Inquisition, they were punished and forced to convert to Christianity by the establishment of the Catholic Church.

·       1394 the complete exile of the Jews from France.

·       15th century AD the Christians liberated Spain, consequently the downfall of the Muslims began. Jews and Muslims were forced to: 1) convert to Christianity or 2) leave Spain.

·       1498 the Jews were driven out of Portugal.

·       1917 as a result of the Russian Revolution they were killed in thousands, because they were blamed for conspiracies.

·       1933 the Holocaust in Germany by the government of Hitler, 6 million Jews were killed in gas chambers. Their properties were seized, their community was destroyed, their schools and their mosques were closed. They were also killed in many other countries of Europe.

·       1942 they were also expelled from the camps where they had taken refuge and were killed too.

Some became aware of their situation

·        1897 the Zionist organization was created (Zionism is an international political movement whose aim is the affirmation of the right to self-determination of the Jewish people)

·        1901 the Zionist organization asks the Roman Empire to support the Jews, to allow them to return to Palestine and to have their own country. But the request was denied.

·       1948 after the World Wars, in which Jews had supported England and France, in exchange, Jews are offered a place in Palestine by the United Nations General Assembly.

With the Zionist movement, the Jews realized their deficiencies and began to focus on knowledge and worked hard. Then, the Hebrew University was created.

And slowly, their revival began with the rope (treaty) of the people.

Because they are not yet strong enough to survive on their own without the support of the people.

They also began to strengthen Allah's rope (covenant): For example, they focused on their religion by bringing about the revival of the Hebrew language.

Israel became a meeting place for all kinds of Jews.
