THE ONE WINGED BUTTERFLY

"ALLAH IS WITH THE PATIENT" [The Qur'an, 2:153]

A monarch butterfly resided in a beautiful garden along with numerous other insects.

Everyone admired her fascinated wings as she flew from here to there in joy. She was loved for helping those in need and always being kind and friendly with all the creatures, be they big or small, nice or not.

They all lived in harmony and sympathy by playing and working all together with ecstasy.

Unfortunately, one day a windy storm attacked their habitation resulting in a horrendous sight all across the place. Many were injured and only a few could survive such a disaster.

The butterfly lost one of her wings and couldn't fly anymore. She looked everywhere in search of her broken wing but had no luck. She felt vulnerable since she didn't just lose a piece of her, but her whole existence had lost its meaning.

After some time, the survivors rebuilt their homes by uniting with a nearby devastated garden and started to return to their duties. But with anguish still lingering in their hearts.

The monarch butterfly mostly spent her time looking up in the sky wondering if she'll ever be able to return to it.

The butterfly without a wing had a hard time in adjusting herself to the ground. As she was learning to walk, she met a migrated ant. The ant looked at her in pity but more with astonishment: "how brave this broken butterfly is, not to give up even if she can't fly anymore, she's still trying to be alive with what is left." thought the ant to herself.

"Let me teach you how to walk properly, and maybe one day you'll be able to run too." proposed the ant to the butterfly. Soon they became best friends and with time their bond grew even stronger than before.

As the seasons passed, the butterfly became proficient in cooperating with her new stage of life. Even if she accepted her reality, she was still left with a scar that kept reminding her of her true identity. Which was very heartbreaking, inducing her into weeping most of the nights.

One night, as the ant was passing by, she heard the butterfly sobbing on a zinnia flower.

The ant climbed the flower and hugged the butterfly by giving her a shoulder to cry on as she was patting her back and softly whispering: "Shh, It's going to be alright...". When the butterfly calmed down, she shared a thought that was bothering her:

"Do wings ever grow back?"

"Sweety, I know you've been through so much and it's still not easy for you to adapt down here again after unveiling your wings and soaring up high. But no matter what, you must not forget that Allah (SWT) is with the patient. And if The Almighty wills He can bless you with wings once more, just like He did for the first time.

And engrave this in your heart: If Allah (SWT) is with you, then nothing can ever tear you apart." inspired the ant to her best friend.

The butterfly prayed for her wings to grow back again while firmly believing that God only wants and does the best for everyone even if we can't see it at the moment. One day everything will make sense, in the meantime, there is no better clarification than to uncover aid in prayer and patience. For if we only knew what the pain transformed us in to, then even if we went back in time, we would still go through it. And because the future is only knowledge of God, then we should trust Him with our eyes closed.

On a rainy day, the butterfly got really sick. And the ant came to take care of her friend. She did all to make her feel better but with no success. So she prayed for her health all night along while staying by her side until falling asleep.

The next morning, the butterfly woke up to be feeling better.

When the ant saw the butterfly standing, she couldn't believe her eyes and shouted: "You're wings..."

"What about my wings...wings??" she carefully looked at her back as she realized that her wing had grown back. But both of her wings were somehow different: they became sparkling and vigorous, the most beautiful pair one had ever seen.

They burst into tears of joy and to celebrate their happiness, the butterfly suggested to the ant: "Come, let's fly together! Hop on my back." then the butterfly raised and slowly flapped her wings once again as she took off with enthusiasm she never felt before.

"Don't close your eyes!" encouraged the butterfly. "I'm scared..." cried out the ant." "You'll miss out on the wonderful view. Trust me, it's going to be alright." therefore the ant was thrilled by the magnificence of the world seen from above. "I never knew our garden was this pretty! We're all truly blessed!" acknowledged the ant.

Together they flew higher in the air to the infinite sky and lived happily ever after.
